FAQs
what happens in therapy?
Psychotherapy is a primarily an ongoing conversation between you and I. In this conversation, we explore your life experiences, recognize patterns, develop new perspectives, learn alternative skills, and empower intentional choices. We'll continuously refine our approach as you apply learning in your daily life, working jointly towards your goals together until you feel confident and ready to move forward independently. Our final session will summarize your progress and recognize the end of our therapeutic relationship.
HOW CAN I BOOK A SESSION?
If you are ready to begin, use the contact form below, text/phone
(404) 692-6591 or email hello@aocpsychotherapy.com. Once your session time is confirmed, you will receive a link from the client portal (operated by Simple Practice) with requests for information to be completed before our first session.
For a brief conversation to assess compatibility and discuss treatment needs before committing a Free Consult Call is available.
Do YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
I operate on a private pay basis and do not take insurance. I believe this allows for greater flexibility and personalized care outside of insurance constraints as well as increased privacy protection. Super Bills, a detailed receipt of services, can be provided upon request. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance provider directly to verify out-of-network benefits and determine the extent of coverage for these services ahead of payment.
HOW MUCH DO SESSIONS COST?
Individuals:
-
$150 / 50 min. session
Couples:
-
First Session: $234 (50 minute session plus one-time fee of $39.00 for the Gottman Couples Connect Relationship Check Up Questionnaire completed online)
-
Subsequent sessions: $195 / 50 min
Fees are due at the time of service. Cancellations made within 48 hours of service will incur 100% fee.
DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL SESSIONS?
Yes, virtual sessions offer convenient and accessible support from the comfort of your own space and are hosted through the secure Simple Practice platform. You can expect the same level of confidentiality and engagement as in-person therapy, with sessions conducted through a secure video platform. I am specifically trained in providing effective virtual therapy, ensuring a therapeutic experience that is both supportive and impactful.
HOW OFTEN ARE MY SESSIONS?
To best establish our therapeutic relationship and comprehensively understand your experiences, I recommend weekly sessions for at least the first eight weeks. This consistency and frequency allows us to build a strong foundation and develop a clear understanding of your needs. As you gain self-awareness and practice new coping strategies outside of our sessions, we can collaboratively review and adjust the session frequency, ensuring ongoing support tailored to your progress.
WHAT ABOUT MEDICATION?
Psychotherapy focuses on talk therapy and does not involve medication management. However, depending on your specific needs, a combination of therapy and medication may be beneficial. I maintain a network of trusted medical providers and psychiatrists to whom I can refer you for medication evaluation and management. We can discuss this further to determine if a referral would be appropriate for your situation and address any concerns you have regarding meidcation use.
HOW LONG WILL I NEED THERAPY?
One measure of success is our relationship reaching a point where my support is no longer needed. How long it takes us to get to that point is highly individualized and influenced by many factors such as my ability to meet your unique needs, our shared commitment to the process, the complexity of challenges being faced, goals, and your personal growth pace. Unforeseen life events, evolving insights, and the depth of desired change can significantly impact the timeline, making it challenging to predict the exact length of therapy required.
CAN I CONTACT YOU BETWEEN SESSIONS?
At times you may wish to email me between sessions, and I’ll do my best to respond within 48 hours, though please note that I do not offer 24/7 support. If something feels urgent or distressing, I encourage you to bring it into our next session where we can explore it together more fully – email is not a substitute for sessions. For immediate crisis support, you can contact the free 24/7 Georgia Crisis and Access Line at 1-800-715-4225 or dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
CAN YOU SPEAK TO my Doctor / partner / boss etc?
A Release of Information (ROI) allows me to speak with another person – such as a doctor, family member, another therapist – about your care, but only with your written consent. If you're considering this, we’ll talk together about what goals we hope to achieve through that communication and whether it feels supportive or possibly disruptive to your therapeutic process. Your comfort and clarity will guide the decision every step of the way.
